This part of the DIN EN 60332 series of standards (VDE 0482-332) specifies a test method for the behavior of a wire, cable, line or fiber optic cable for vertical flame propagation under fire conditions. The standard DIN EN 60332-1-2 (VDE 0482-332-1-2) describes the use of the 1 kW flame with gas/air mixture and is mainly used for testing vertical flame propagation. However, the specified test method may not be applicable for core wires, cables or wires with a total conductor cross-section of less than 0.5 mm2 because the conductor melts before the test is completed, or it may not be applicable for testing thin fiber optic cables because the cable or wire breaks before the test is completed. For these cases, the test method described in DIN EN 60332-2-2 (VDE 0482-332-2-2) is recommended. This amendment updates the normative references, redefines the sampling, revises the positioning of the sample and the flame and changes and optimizes the recommended test requirement. The responsible committee is Subcommittee UK 411.2 "Isolierte Starkstromleitungen" ("Insulated cables, wires and flexible cords for power installation") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
