The standard applies to lampholders with Edison thread E14, E27 and E40, designed for connection to the supply of lamps and semi-luminaires only. It also applies to switched-lampholders for use in a.c. circuits only, where the working voltage does not exceed 250 V r.m.s. The standard also specifies requirements for lampholders which are completely or partially part of a luminaire or for installation into devices. It only contains requirements for lampholders. Regarding all other requirements, such as protection against electric shock in the terminal or base areas, the requirements of the corresponding equipment regulations shall be taken into account; the test is carried out after installation into the corresponding equipment if it is tested in accordance with its corresponding standard. Such lampholders and lampholders with clip-on skirt are for use for luminaire manufacturers only and not intended for retail sale. The Subcommittee responsible for this standard is UK 521.2 "Lampensockel und -fassungen" ("Lamp caps and holders") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
