Overview

This part of IEC 60204 contains requirements and recommendations for the high-voltage part of the electrical equipment (high-voltage equipment) of machines together with their associated electrical equipment for low voltage (low-voltage equipment) to promote - safety of persons and property; - preservation of functionality; - maintainability. High performance shall not be achieved at the expense of the aforementioned essential factors. An example of this requirement is a machine or group of machines for material processing, where a failure in such machinery can have serious economic consequences. This part is applicable to equipment or parts of equipment operated at nominal voltages above 1 000 V a.c. or 1 500 V d.c., and not exceeding 36 kV a.c. or d.c., at nominal frequencies up to and including 60 Hz. In this standard, the term "high-voltage equipment" also includes low-voltage equipment if this is an integral part of the high-voltage equipment. The requirements of this standard primarily cover the parts that are operated at high voltage, unless explicitly stated otherwise. The DKE/K 225 "Electrical equipment and safety of machines and machine systems" of the DKE German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies of DIN and VDE is responsible for this.
