This new edition serves to determine the temperature index of enameled and tape wrapped, bare or enameled round and flat wires at atmospheric air pressure, characterized by a change in dielectric strength. With regard to the definition of the temperature index, this standard refers to IEC 60216-1. When testing enameled specimens, the compatibility of the wire insulation with the impregnating agent is also evaluated. Therefore, temperature indices of different combinations can be compared. The data resulting from the specified test procedures can be used as information for the selection of winding wires for further evaluations during tests of insulation systems and equipment. The responsible committee is DKE/K 413 "Wickeldrähte" ("Winding wires") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
