This standard defines the performance specifications for double-capped fluorescent lamps for general lighting service. The requirements of this standard only refer to a type test. Compliance conditions including methods of statistic evaluation are under discussion. The following types of lamps and operating modes are included: a) lamps with preheated electrodes intended for operation at mains frequency using a starter and which can be additionally operated at high frequency; b) lamps with preheated high-impedance electrodes intended for operation at mains frequency without using a starter (starterless) and which can be additionally operated at high frequency; c) lamps with preheated low-impedance electrodes intended for operation at mains frequency without using a starter (starterless) and which can be additionally operated at high frequency; d) lamps with preheated electrodes intended for operation at high frequency; e) lamps with non-preheated electrodes intended for operation at mains frequency; f) lamps with non-preheated electrodes intended for operation at high frequency. For some of the requirements given in this standard, reference is made to the "corresponding data sheet for lamps". This standard contains these data sheets for some of the lamps. For other lamps which are within the Scope of this standard, the corresponding data are provided by the lamp manufacturer or responsible salesperson. The responsible Committee is Subcommittee UK 521.1 "Elektrische Lampen" ("Electric lamps") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
