DIN EN 581-1:2017-07

This part of EN 581 specifies the general safety requirements for outdoor seating and tables for camping, domestic and contract for use by adults, without regard to materials, design/construction or manufacturing processes. It does not apply to seating for spectator facilities. It does not include requirements for the durability of upholstery materials, castors, reclining and tilting mechanisms and seat height adjustment mechanisms. Mechanical safety requirements are covered by EN 581-2 for seating and EN 581-3 for tables. Annex A (informative) is a schematic presentation of requirements and conditions concerning shear and squeeze points. Annex B (informative) is a rationale concerning fingers injury. This document (FprEN 581-1:2016) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 207 "Furniture", the secretariat of which is held by UNI (Italy). The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 042-05-04 AA "Anforderungen an Außenmöbel, SpA CEN/TC 207/WG 4" ("Requirements of outdoor furniture (national mirror committee of CEN/TC 207/WG 4)") at DIN Standards Committee Timber and Furniture (NHM). In Clause 5, this standard includes safety requirements within the meaning of the Produktsicherheitsgesetz (ProdSG) (German Product Safety Act). Where this standard has been identified by the Ausschuss für Produktsicherheit (German Committee for Product Safety) and reference to it has been published in the Gemeinsames Ministerialblatt (German Joint Ministerial Gazette) by the Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin (BAuA) (German Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health), it is to be presumed that outdoor furniture and tables which comply with this standard fulfil the relevant health and safety requirements.
