This European Standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 72 "Fire detection and fire alarm systems" (secretariat: BSI, United Kingdom) and is supervised at the national level by Working Committee NA 031-02-08 AA "Brandmelder Gruppe A - SpA zu CEN/TC 72/WG 5, WG 12, WG 20, WG 21" ("Fire detectors group A - national mirror committee for CEN/TC 72/WG 5, WG 12, WG 20, WG 21"). The system requirements and technical application rules for fire alarm activation in buildings complying with this standard are specified in DIN 14675-1 and DIN VDE 0833-2 (VDE 0833 Part 2). This European Standard specifies the requirements, test methods and performance criteria for point heat detectors intended for use in fire detection and fire alarm systems installed in and around buildings (see EN 54-1:1996). For other types of heat detector, or for detectors intended for use in other environments, this standard should only be used for guidance. Heat detectors with special characteristics and developed for specific risks are not covered by this standard.
