Overview

This European standard specifies safety requirements and their verification with respect to the design and construction of electrically powered hand-held scissors type grass shears, which are primarily intended for cutting grass, having blades not exceeding a maximum width of 200 mm and a maximum permitted rated voltage of 250 V for alternating current and 75 V for direct current. For the purpose of this European standard, the term "machine" means "electrically powered scissors type grass shears". This European standard does not apply to hedge trimmers covered in EN 60745-2-15. Requirements for chargers are given in EN 60335-2-29:2004. Requirements for batteries are given in EN 62133:2003.This European standard does not consider EMC and environmental aspects other than sound/noise. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 514.3 "Garten- und Rasenpflegegeräte" ("Garden and lawn equipment") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
