The European series of standards EN 50625 aims to support institutions in the effective and efficient treatment and disposal of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) in order to prevent pollution and reduce emissions. The objectives of this series are to promote mechanical recycling, support high quality recovery operations and avoid improper disposal of WEEE and its fractions. This Part 2-1 of the EN 50625 series of standards deals with the treatment of lamps until they have waste characteristics or until their fractions are recycled reused or disposed of. This standard is addressed to all operators of treatment facilities including the associated handling, sorting and storage of lamps. It applies to all installations, including those whose operations involve the use of mobile equipment. The requirements laid down in this part of the series of standards supplement or replace the requirements of the general part EN 50625-1. The responsible committee is DKE/K 191 "Umweltschutz und Nachhaltigkeit bei Produkten in der Elektrotechnik, Elektronik, Informationstechnik" ("Environmental protection and sustainability for products in electrotechnics, electronics, information technology") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
