This standard contains the German version of the European Standard EN 50554:2010 and specifies the fundamentals for in-situ assessment of both public and worker exposure to electromagnetic fields at a broadcast site. The standard is intended to ensure that the reference levels or basic restrictions given in the European Council recommendation are met at a broadcast site, taking into consideration that at this site fields from other sources may already exist which may contribute to overall exposure. Fields of relevant sources shall be included in the assessment. This assessment may be applied at any time but must be carried out when the exposure situation changes in or around the respective site. This standard defines the areas to be considered where the assessment is carried out. A simple method for estimation of the safety distance from a broadcast site is given in Annex A of the standard. The standard plays an essential role in the coordination of different stakeholders, with respect to ensuring electromagnetic field exposure compliance in and around a broadcast site especially for equipment installed within this site. Specific national regulations which apply for the assessment in the Federal Republic of Germany and Italy have been explained in Annex B of this standard. The responsible Committee is K 764 "Sicherheit in elektromagnetischen Feldern" ("Safety in electromagnetic fields") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
