The series EN 50525 consists of 18 parts derived from CENELEC Harmonization Documents HD 21 and HD 22. The standard consists of the following parts: Part 1: General requirements Part 2: Cables for general applications Part 3: Cables with special fire performance Parts 2 and 3 are further subdivided for the cable types and applications. An intention of the conversion work, which forms part of an overall CENELEC initiative to convert remaining HDs to ENs, is to create a structure for the EN that will be sufficiently robust to ensure a simple means of making future additions and amendments. As part of the work there has been a review of the market relevance of cable types in HD 21 and HD 22, and changes have been made accordingly. Some matters previously in HD 21 and HD 22 are now in separate publications thus: - Insulating, sheathing and covering materials - EN 50363; - Electrical test methods - EN 50395; - Non-electrical test methods - EN 50396. The collective objective of all parts of EN 50525 is: - to standardise cables that are safe and reliable when properly selected, installed and used; - to state the characteristics and manufacturing requirements directly or indirectly bearing on safety; and - to specify methods for checking conformity with those requirements. The series EN 50525 consists of the following parts: EN 50525-1 contains the common, basic requirements applicable for all types. Annex E contains a full description of the content of EN 50525 and the derivation from HD 21 and HD 22 in order to facilitate localization of the corresponding part in this edition. EN 50525-2-11 applies to thermoplastic (PVC) insulated and PVC sheathed flexible cables. The cables are intended for the connection of domestic appliances to the fixed supply and are designed for rated voltages U0/U up to and including 300/500 V. EN 50525-2-12 applies to thermoplastic (PVC) insulated and PVC sheathed extensible leads. The cables are intended for the connection of domestic appliances to the fixed supply and are designed for rated voltages U0/U up to and including 300/500 V. EN 50525-2-21 applies to flexible cables, insulated with crosslinked elastomeric compound, and sheathed with either crosslinked elastomeric compound or thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). These cables are intended for a variety of applications where appliances or equipment, including heavy industrial equipment, require a flexible connection to the power supply. They are designed for rated voltages U0/U up to and including 450/750 V. EN 50525-2-22 applies to crosslinked EPR insulated ant textile braided flexible cables. The cables are intended for the connection of domestic appliances to the fixed supply, where an extra flexible connection is required, and is designed for rated voltages U0/U up to and including 300/300 V. EN 50525-2-31 applies to non-sheathed single core cables insulated with thermoplastic (PVC) insulation. These cables are intended for fixed wiring applications and are designed for rated voltages U0/U up to and including 450/750 V. EN 50525-2-41 applies to cross-linked silicone rubber insulated single core cables. These cables are intended for use in fixed installations within high temperature zones and are designed for rated voltages U0/U up to and including 300/500 V. EN 50525-2-42 applies to crosslinked elastomeric insulated single core non-sheathed cables. These cables are intended for use in fixed installations within high temperature zones and are designed for rated voltages U0/U up to and including 300/500 V. EN 50525-2-51 applies to oil resistant (PVC) insulated and sheathed flexible cables. Screened and non-screened cable types are described. These cables are intended for the interconnection of manufacturing machines. They are designed for rated voltages U0/U up to and including 300/500 V. EN 50525-2-71 applies to thermoplastic (PVC) insulated flexible flat tinsel cables. These cables are intended for the connection of small appliances to the fixed supply and are designed for rated voltages U0/U up to and including 300/300 V. EN 50525-2-72 applies to thermoplastic (PVC) insulated flat divisible flexible cables. These cables are intended for use indoors as internal wiring or direct supply connection to luminaires and are designed for rated voltages U0/U up to and including 300/300 V. EN 50525-2-81 applies to single core, crosslinked elastomer covered arc welding cables. These cables are intended for connections between the welding power source and the electrode holder and the work piece. They are designed for rated voltages U0/U up to and including 100/100 V. EN 50525-2-82 applies to polychloroprene, or other equivalent synthetic elastomer, sheathed cables. These cables are intended for use as decorative chains and with designated lampholders and are designed for rated voltages U0/U up to and including 300/500 V. EN 50525-2-83 applies to multicore cables insulated and sheathed with heat resistant crosslinked silicone rubber. Types with or without an overall textile braid, and with or without a strain-bearing element, are included. These cables are intended for use in fixed installation within high temperature zones, either in fixed installations with mechanical protection or for flexible use under low mechanical stress. They are designed for rated voltages U0/U up to and including 300/500 V. EN 50525-3-11 applies to flexible cables, insulated and sheathed with halogen-free thermoplastic compound and having low emission of smoke and corrosive gases when exposed to fire. These cables are intended for the connection of domestic appliances to the fixed supply and are designed for rated voltages U0/U up to and including 300/500 V. EN 50525-3-21 applies to flexible cables, insulated and sheathed with halogen-free crosslinked compound and having low emission of smoke and corrosive gases when exposed to fire. The cables are intended for the connection of equipment and machinery to the fixed supply and are designed for rated voltages U0/U up to and including 450/750 V. EN 50525-3-31 applies to non-sheathed single core cables insulated with halogen-free thermoplastic compound and having low emission of smoke and corrosive gases when exposed to fire. These cables are intended for use in fixed installations and are designed for rated voltages U0/U up to and including 450/750 V. EN 50525-3-41 applies to non-sheathed single core cables insulated with halogen-free crosslinked compound and having low emission of smoke and corrosive gases when exposed to fire. These cables are intended for use in fixed installations and are designed for rated voltages U0/U up to and including 450/750 V. The responsible committee is Subcommittee UK 411.2 "Isolierte Starkstromleitungen" ("Insulated cables, wires and flexible cords for power installation") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
