This European Standard specifies minimum requirements for earth electrode networks and equipotential bonding leads in buildings in which information technology equipment is installed, in order to protect devices and information technology cabling against electrical hazards. The following objectives shall be achieved for information technology cabling: 1) reliable level of signal reception 2) reliable immunity against electromagnetic disturbances supported by the earth electrode network. The standard applies for different types of buildings, ranging from flats to commercial buildings and industrial sites. The responsible Committee is K 712 "Sicherheit von Anlagen der Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik einschließlich Potentialausgleich und Erdung" ("Safety of information and communication technology systems, including equipotential bonding and earthing") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
