This standard specifies the criteria for copper data and telecom cables designed to have intrinsic resistance to fire and intended for use as emergency circuits for alarm, lighting and communication purposes. The test methods are based on EN 50200 "Method of test for resistance to fire of unprotected small cables for use in emergency circuits", EN 50577 "Electric cables - Fire resistance test for unprotected electric cables (P classification)" as well as a method for measurement of the transmission response. The standard covers the Essential Requirements of the Construction Products Directive (89/106/EEC). The changes compared to the previous edition concern the revision of Table 1 for the tests and requirements, the clause on the classification for functional integrity and the consideration of EN 50577. The responsible committee is DKE/K 412 "Kommunikationskabel (Kabel, Leitungen, Wellenleiter, Lichtwellenleiter, Komponenten, Zubehör und Anlagentechnik für die Nachrichten- und Informationsübertragung)" ("Communication cables (Cables, wires, waveguides, optical fibres, components, accessories and systems engineering for telecommunication and transmission of information)") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN EN 50289-4-16:2012-11; VDE 0819-289-4-16:2012-11 .
