The standards of the DIN EN 50174 series specify requirements for the specification phase, planning phase, realization phase and operation phase of information technology cabling systems which apply for both generic cabling systems (see standards of the DIN EN 50173 series) as well as application-specific cabling systems (see, for example, standards of the DIN EN 50098 series). DIN EN 50174-2 (VDE 0800-174-2) contains specifications for the planning and installation phase of a cabling system in buildings. This also covers the specifications for the required segregation of metallic information technology cabling and mains power cabling, information on electricity distribution systems and lightning protection and normative information on electromagnetic compatibility including a compilation which covers all EMC-relevant aspects which may have to be taken into account. The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN 50174-2 (VDE 0800-174-2):2009-09: a) incorporation of clause 10 with specific requirements for installation of cabling in homes, b) incorporation of clause 11 with specific requirements for installation of cabling in data centres, c) incorporation of requirements for hand-over rooms in office premises (commercial premises) (see 8.3) and in industrial premises (see 9.3), d) technical and editorial modifications in clauses 4, 5, 6 and 7. The responsible Subcommittee is Joint Subcommittee GUK 715.3 "Informationstechnische Verkabelung von Gebäudekomplexen" ("Customer premises cabling") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
