DIN EN 50173-4 (VDE 0800-173-4) specifies a future-proof structure and configuration of generic cabling systems in homes (both one-family houses and multiple dwellings). With the new edition of this standard, the specifications of Amendment 2 to the European Standard on fibre-optic cabling in homes have been transferred into the national body of standards. The corresponding modifications in the clauses "Structure of the generic cabling system to support ICT and/or BCT applications in homes", "Channel performance in homes", "Reference implementations in homes", "Cable requirements in homes", "Connecting hardware requirements in homes", "Link performance limits" for use of single mode optical cables type OS1 and OS2, and multimode optical cables type OM3 as well as plastic fibres type OP1 have been incorporated. Furthermore, several editorial modifications have been carried out. The responsible committee is Joint Subcommittee GUK 715.3 "Informationstechnische Verkabelung von Gebäudekomplexen" ("Customer premises cabling") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
