This European Standard serves for the protection against electric shock and specifies requirements for the manufacturer which he shall take into account in the design and manufacture of electrical installations and equipment to be used on rolling stock to protect persons from electric shocks. Rolling stock in the context of this standard includes: railbound rolling stock and trolley buses, if they are powered by an external supply (via overhead lines). The following are excluded: mine railways in mines, crane installations, moving platforms, funicular railways, temporary constructions. The responsible committee is Subcommittee DKE/UK 351.1 "Fahrzeuge" ("Rolling stock") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
