This Part 2 of EN 50126 considers RAMS, understood as reliability, availability, maintainability and safety and their interaction. It considers the generic aspects of the RAMS life-cycle. The guidance in this part is still applicable in the application of specific standards. With regard to safety EN 50126-2 provides guidance and methods supporting the Safety Management Process described in EN 50126-1. The draft standard defines a process for controlling RAMS that is based on the system life cycle and the requirements it contains, as well as a systematic process that can be adapted to the type and size of the system under consideration, for defining requirements for RAMS and for demonstrating that these requirements are being met. It addresses railway-specific issues and enables the effective management and resolution of conflicts between RAMS elements. It does not define RAMS objectives, quantities, requirements or solutions for specific railway applications. Rules or processes related to the certification of railway products according to the requirements of this standard, the approval process by the safety authority and requirements to ensure system security are not defined by this draft standard either. The responsible committee is DKE/K 351 "Elektrische Ausrüstungen für Bahnen" ("Electrical applications for railways") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
