This European Standard applies to compact laminates for outdoor use with a thickness of 2 mm and greater, manufactured by a high-pressure process. The standard specifies the requirements for standard grade and flame retardant laminates for use in outdoor weathering conditions such as direct sunlight, rain and frost. Two performance grades are specified; one for moderate exposure and the other for heavy outdoor exposure. Laminates complying with this European Standard are referred to as Exterior Grade Compact Laminates and are characterized by high tensile strength, high impact resistance, resistance to rapid temperature changes, and resistance to weathering and corrosion. They are available in a variety of decorative colors with high resistance to color change and aging in outdoor applications. Self-supporting outdoor compact laminates are pre-prepared ready for installation, so that in the intended application it is only necessary to cut them to size, drill and so on. EN 438-2 specifies the methods of test relevant to this part of EN 438. Working Committee NA 054-04-01 AA "Dekorative Schichtstoffe und Mineralwerkstoffe" ("Decorative laminates and solid surfacing materials") at DIN Standards Committee Plastics (FNK) is responsible for this document.
This document replaces DIN EN 438-6:2005-04 .
