Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with these requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Union, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity); see also Annex ZA. This European Standard defines the range of packaging machines. The machines defined herein are divided into the following main groups: - filling machines; - closing machines; - labelling, decorating and coding machines; - cleaning, sterilizing, cooling and drying machines; - fill and seal machines; - inspection machines; - container and packaging component handling machines; - form, fill and seal machines; - carton erecting, carton closing and cartoning machines; - wrapping machines; - group or secondary packaging machines; - palletizers, depalletizers and ancillary equipment; - pallet wrapping machines; - strapping machines. This part of EN 415 indicates the relevant machine specific part of EN 415 or another relevant standard, where safety requirements for dealing with the hazards associated with these machines can be found. This standard contains the German version of EN 415-1:2014 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 146 "Packaging machines - Safety" at the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The following modifications have been made with respect to EN 415-1:2009-10: a) the title of the German version has been aligned with the unmodified English reference version; b) in Clause 1 "Scope", "filling and dosing machines" has been replaced by "filling machines" and the following machines have been added: - carton erecting, carton closing and cartoning machines, - palletizers, depalletizers and ancillary equipment; - pallet wrapping machines; - strapping machines; c) in Clause 3, Annex A and Annex B, terms (and definitions) have been added/modified/deleted; d) in Annex B, a new column with Italian packaging machine designations has been added; e) the former informative Annex C with Italian packaging machine designations has been deleted; f) a new informative Annex C has been included regarding future requests to add, modify or delete existing packaging machine terms or definitions. The national interests during the preparation have been represented by NA 060-18-20 AA "Terminologie und Klassifikation von Verpackungsmaschinen" ("Terminology and classification of packaging machines") of Technical Section "Verpackungsmaschinen" ("Packaging machines") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of manufacturers of packaging machines and of the employers' liability insurance associations contributed to this standard.
