This European Standard specifies the physical and performance requirements (for example, shock absorption and resistance to penetration) for industrial safety helmets. The corresponding test methods and test conditions are given for these requirements. Industrial safety helmets are intended primarily to provide protection to the wearer against falling objects and consequential brain injury and skull fracture. Test institutes, certification bodies and manufacturers are potential users of this document. The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 075-01-02 AA "Kopfschutz" ("Head protection") of the Personal Protective Equipment Standards Committee (NPS). This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association to provide a means of conforming to Essential Requirements of the New Approach Directive 89/686/EEC Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
This document replaces DIN EN 397:2012-04 .
