This European Standard defines five use classes representing different service situations to which wood and wood-based products can be exposed. It informs which wood-staining or wood-destroying biological agents may occur in the corresponding use class. The standard also contains an overview of the relevant wood-staining or wood-destroying fungi, insects and marine borers. The connection between the use classes and the service classes according to DIN EN 1995-1-1 (Eurocode 5) is also indicated in an annex. Both systems use the wood moisture as criterion, but differ in the consideration of the effects of this moisture so individual classes do not align with one another. The three parts constituting the standard thus far, including General (DIN EN 335-1), Solid wood (DIN EN 335-2) and Wood-based panels (DIN EN 335-3), have been combined to form one standard. With respect to the former editions, new criteria for distinction of use classes 3.1 and 3.2 have been defined and the subdivision of use class 4 has been omitted. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 042-03-06 AA "Spiegelausschuss zu CEN/TC 38 und ISO/TC 165/SC 1 Dauerhaftigkeit von Holz und Holzprodukten" ("Mirror Committee of CEN/TC 38 and ISO/TC 165/SC 1 Durability of wood and wood-based products") at DIN.
This document replaces DIN EN 335-1:2006-10 , DIN EN 335-2:2006-10 , DIN EN 335-3:1995-09 .
