This European Standard specifies a method for determining the influence of shear strength in crosswise gluing by wood shrinkage under drying conditions. This standard serves for assessing the compliance of adhesives with DIN EN 301, DIN EN 15425 and DIN EN 16254, assessing the suitability and quality of adhesives for load-bearing timber structures and verifying whether the adhesive is capable of withstanding stresses due to wood shrinkage without unacceptable loss of strength. The test method is intended primarily to determine performance data for the classification of adhesives for load-bearing timber structures according to their suitability for use in defined climatic environments. This test is carried out on Norway spruce (Picea abies L.). The method is not suitable for the determination of numerical design data and does not necessarily represent the performance of the bonded member in service. With respect to DIN EN 302-4:2004-10 the determination of the air speed has been rendered more precise, the tolerance of the air speed has been increased and the standard has been editorially revised. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 042-04-05 AA "Spiegelausschuss zu CEN/TC 193/SC 1 Holzklebung" ("Mirror committee for CEN/TC 193/SC 1 Wood adhesives") at DIN.
