This European Standard applies to self-compacting concrete (SCC) for structures cast in situ or precast structures, and structural precast products for buildings and civil engineering structures. This European Standard applies to SCC which is self-compacting by gravity to retain no entrapped air other than entrained air. It applies to normal-weight concrete. Experience with SCC containing light-weight or heavy-weight aggregate and fibres is limited. Some but not all provisions of this standard will apply for the latter forms of SCC. That is why the corresponding requirements have to be determined on a case by case basis. The SCC may be mixed on site, ready-mixed concrete or produced in a plant for precast concrete products. In addition to the requirements according to EN 206-1:2000, this European Standard defines requirements regarding the following aspects: components of SCC; properties of fresh and hardened SCC as well as their verification; limitations regarding the composition of SCC; specifications of SCC; methods for factory production control systems; conformity criteria. Other European Standards for certain products, for instance precast concrete products, or for methods in the scope of this standard may require or allow regulations deviating from this standard. The limitations outlined in the scope of EN 206-1:2000 apply to self-compacting concrete according to this European Standard. Health and safety requirements regarding the protection of personnel during the manufacture and delivery of concrete are not covered by this European Standard. Self-compacting concrete (SCC) technology is constantly being further developed and in practice there are differences in the design of this type of concrete. This European Standard specifies common rules for SCC. Where this is not possible, however, the relevant clauses allow for the use of National Standards or applicable specifications at the point of use of the concrete. This European Standard is intended for use in Europe under the different climatic and geographical conditions, for different levels of protection, and taking into consideration the different proven regional traditions and experiences. For the properties of self-compacting concrete classes have been implemented which take this situation into account. Where it was not possible to meet general regulations, the relevant clauses allow for the use of National Standards or applicable specifications at the point of use of the concrete.
