This document (EN 1993-1-5:2006 + AC:2009 + A1:2017) has been prepared by CEN/TC 250 "Structural Eurocodes", the secretariat of which is held by BSI (United Kingdom). The German mirror committee is Working Committee NA 005-08-16 AA "Tragwerksbemessung (SpA zu CEN/TC 250/SC 3, ISO/TC 167/SC 1)" ("Design of structures (national mirror committee for CEN/TC 250/SC 3, ISO/TC 167/SC 1)") at DIN Standards Committee Building and Civil Engineering (NABau). EN 1993-1-5 contains rules for the design and calculation of plated structural elements loaded in their plane, with or without stiffeners. These regulations apply to plate girders with I cross-section and box girders in which uneven stress distributions occur due to shear distortion and buckling under longitudinal stresses, shear stresses and shear loads. They also apply to flat plates of all other components, for example tank structures and silos, insofar as loads and stresses act in the plane of the components. The effects of loads transverse to the component plane are not dealt with in EN 1993-1-5.
