This European Standard describes a method of determining the heat of hydration of cements by means of a solution calorimeter, also known as the solution method. The heat of hydration is expressed in joules per gram of cement. This European Standard is applicable to cements and hydraulic binders whatever their chemical composition. Another procedure, the so-called semi-adiabatic method, is described in EN 196-9. Either procedure can be used independently. It has been demonstrated that the best correlation between the two methods is obtained at seven days for the solution method (EN 196-8) and after 41 h for the semi-adiabatic method (EN 196-9). At DIN the Committee responsible for this standard is NA 005-07-13 AA "Zement (Sp zu Teilbereichen von CEN/TC 51 und ISO/TC 74)" ("Cement (Mirror Committee to parts of CEN/TC 51 and ISO/TC 74)").
This document replaces DIN EN 196-8:2004-01 .
