This document has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 192 "Fire and rescue service equipment" (secretariat: BSI, United Kingdom), Working Group WG 1 "Hoses for firefighting". The collaboration of DIN at the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) for the field of responsibility of CEN/TC 192 "Fire and rescue service equipment" is performed through Working Committee NA 031-04-04 AA "Schläuche und Armaturen" ("Hoses and hose fittings") of the FNFW. Together with DIN EN 694 and DIN EN 14540, this standard is one of a series of firefighting hose standards that have been simultaneously revised by CEN/TC 192/WG 1 "Hoses for firefighting". The former annexes on test methods have been deleted and the test methods are now centrally specified in DIN EN 15889 "Firefighting hoses - Test methods". The requirement clauses of this standard make now reference to the relevant annexes in DIN EN 15889. This European Standard specifies the requirements and test methods for semi-rigid drum hoses for use on firefighting vehicles and trailer pumps. The hoses are intended for use at a maximum working pressure of 1,5 MPa (15 bar) for normal pressure hoses (category I) and 4,0 MPa (40 bar) for high pressure hoses (category II). The hoses are further subdivided into types and classes. This Standard applies to hoses for fire-fighting purposes intended for use at a minimum ambient temperature up to -20 °C. Requirements are also given for hose assemblies. Because this European Standard takes into consideration all hoses which are in use in Europe at the time of its preparation, the semi-rigid delivery hoses covered here have been classified into three types, six classes and two categories, so that four possible inside diameters are given. During the next revision of this European Standard, the extent to which such a complex classification is necessary will be reviewed on the basis of current market considerations. Type C PN 16 delivery couplings of aluminium alloy intended for use with semi-rigid delivery hoses complying with this European Standard are specified in DIN 14330. Since EN 1947:2014 does not specify a designation, it is recommended to designate firefighting hoses complying with this European Standard as indicated in its national foreword.
This document replaces DIN EN 1947:2007-07 .
