This European Standard lists the visual strength grades, species and sources of timber, and specifies the strength classes to which they are assigned, as documented in EN 338. This document (EN 1912:2012) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 124 "Timber structures", the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR (France). The work on this revised edition was carried out by the German experts of NABau Mirror Committee NA 005-04-01 "Holzbau (Sp CEN/TC 124, CEN/TC 250/SC 5)" ("Timber structures (Mirror Committee of CEN/TC 124, CEN/TC 250/SC 5)") at DIN, the German Institute for Standardization e. V. This revised document comprises Amendment A1 which has been approved by CEN on 2006-12-28, Amendment A2 which has been approved by CEN on 2008-02-02, Amendment A3 which has been approved on 2009-04-21 and Amendment A4 which has been approved by CEN on 2010-02-11, as well as additional specifications from the revision. This standard differs from DIN EN 1912:2010-07 as follows: a) in Table 1, grades S7K, S10K, S13K and HS R have been included; b) in Table 2, new species have been added for the Netherlands in strength classes D40, D50 and D60: Maçaranduba (133), Cumaru (135), Tali (140) and Okan (141) and Angelim vermelho (134); c) in Table 2, new species have been added for France in strength classes D50, D40 and D35: Ipe (136), Angelique (137), Gonfolo (138) and Jaboty (139); d) in Table 2, a new species has been added for the United Kingdom in strength class D40: Sapele (132); e) Table 4 has been extended to include: Cylicodiscus gabunensis Harms (141), Dinizia excelsa Ducke (134), Dipteryx odorata Willd (135), Dicorynia guianensis Amsh (137), Erisma uncinatum Warm (139), Erythrophleum ivorense A. Chev (Erythrophleum suaveolens Brenan) (140), Entandrophragma cylindricum (132), Manikara bidentata (133), Tabebuia spp. (136), Qualea spp. (Ruizterania spp.) (138); f) in Table A.1, normative references are now dated.
