This document is a generic standard for evacuation and rescue as part of the safety requirements for cableway installations designed to carry persons. This standards program deals with the planning, manufacture, installation, maintenance and operation of all cableway installations designed to carry persons. This document specifies the safety requirements applicable to carrier recovery and passenger evacuation from cableway installations designed to carry persons, with the exception of ski-tows. This document establishes the requirements relating to the methods and equipment to be used to ensure the safety of passengers on cableways in the event of extended stoppage of the installation. It includes requirements relating to the prevention of work accidents and to worker protection, without prejudice to the application of national provisions according to construction and regulatory law, and requirements for the protection of certain groups of people. The situation resulting solely from the standstill of the vehicles is included, even if the persons being transported are not directly endangered, with the exception of special measures that could result from an accident. It does not apply to installations for the transportation of goods by rope or to inclined lifts. It does not deal with construction provisions relating to carriers. This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association and supports essential requirements of EU Directive 2000/9/EC. The responsible standardization committee is NA 087-00-01-16 AA "Seilbahnen" ("Cableway installations").
This document replaces DIN EN 1909:2005-06 .
