Overview

This European Standard complements DIN EN 1708-1. It is intended for applications in industrial, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors. The standard includes established examples for the design of claddings, linings and dissimilar joints and complex connections relevant to the welding technology and with regard to pressurized components (for instance, vessels, boilers and piping). It does not override conditions on dimensioning of welded joints regarding strength (for instance, according to EN 12952, EN 12953, EN 13445 and EN 13480). It is to be applied in accordance with the specified application limits for pressurized vessels and appliances subject to compression stress with bearing wall thicknesses up to 30 mm. This limit has been chosen for structural reasons and not for heat treatment which may be required. This limit applies to butt welds in the bearing vessel wall only and does not apply to flanges, torispherical heads, flat ends or other similar parts. This standard has been prepared by CEN/TC 121/SC 4 "Quality management in the field of welding". The responsible German standardization committee is DIN/DVS Joint Committee NA 092-00-04 AA "Qualitätssicherung beim Schweißen (DVS AG Q 2)"("Quality assurance of welding (DVS AG Q 2)") at NAS.
