Overview

This Part 1 of the European Standard Series EN 16510 is applicable to residential solid fuel burning appliances. This European Standard is not applicable to appliances with boiler parts in contact with fire or flue gases other than when the boiler parts are manufactured from steel or cast iron. This European Standard also applies to appliances designed for operation in conditions independent of ambient air and intended for connection to a flue system to which no other appliances are connected. This Part 1 of the European standard series EN 16510 specifies requirements relating to the design, manufacture, construction, safety and performance (efficiency and emission) of appliances fired by solid fuels and provides instructions for them. Furthermore, it also gives provisions for the evaluation of conformity, that is initial type testing (ITT), and factory production control (FPC) and marking of these appliances. This Part 1 of EN 16510 shall be used in conjunction with the appropriate Part 2. Parts 2 contain clauses that supplement or amend the corresponding clauses to provide the relevant requirements for each type of appliance. The EN 16510 series of standards "Residential solid fuel burning appliances", has the following structure: - Part 1 General requirements and test methods; - Part 2-1 Room heaters; - Part 2-2 Insert appliances including open fires; - Part 2-3 Cookers; - Part 2-4 Independent boilers - Nominal heat output up to 50 kW. This standard contains the specifications for the information on the appliance label and in the declaration of performance in accordance with Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011 for fireplaces for solid fuels. Furthermore, the standard contains a guideline for the characteristics to be taken into account when deciding on families of appliances, measurement methods of NOx-, gaseous organic carbon- and particulate emissions from appliances fired by solid fuels, specifications for the classification of appliances and system boundary limits of room sealed appliances and requirements for the safety of appliances with boiler. The committee responsible for this standard is Working Committee NA 040-01-01 AA "Feuerstätten für feste Brennstoffe - Deutscher Spiegelausschuss CEN/TC 295" ("Appliances fired by solid fuels - German mirror committee CEN/TC 295") at DIN.
