This European Standard establishes a classification system for emulsion polymerised isocyanate (EPI) adhesives for use in load-bearing timber structures in defined climatic exposure conditions. This standard is primarily intended for the use of adhesive manufacturers and for the use in timber structures bonded with adhesives, to assess or control the quality of adhesives. It specifies performance requirements for such adhesives for the industrial manufacture of load-bearing timber structures. The performance requirements of this standard apply to the adhesive only, not to the structure. Testing is carried out in accordance with existing European Standards, the test methods were partly modified in order to take into account the special conditions for EPI adhesives. The working properties of the EPI adhesives are also determined in accordance with existing European Standards. Due to the low glue line filling capacity of the EPI adhesives Annex A specifies limitations for bonding glued laminated timber with regard to the dimensions of the structures and the glue line thickness. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 042-04-05 AA "Spiegelausschuss zu CEN/TC 193/SC 1 Holzklebung" ("Mirror committee for CEN/TC 193/SC 1 Wood adhesives") at DIN.
