The committee responsible for this document is NA 115-01-04 AA "Anforderungen und Prüfung" ("Requirements and test methods") at the Packaging Standards Committee (NAVp) at DIN. The basis of this document is national standard DIN 30789-2 "Transportation loads - Measurement and evaluation of climatic and other loads - Part 2: Data acquisition and general requirements for measuring equipment". This document has been prepared in the aforementioned NAVp Working Committee and submitted for European standardization. It is part of a complete normative concept to acquire and describe climatic and other loads, which can occur and affect goods during transport, handling and storage. This document obtains a significant meaning in the framework of realisation of the requirements of the European Directive on Packaging and Packaging Waste (Directive 94/62/EC, dated December 20, 1994). These requirements for avoidance or reduction of packaging waste call for the required amount of packaging expenditure to be adapted to the expected transportation load, in order to protect the transported item adequately, amongst other things. However, this presumes some knowledge of the climatic and other loads which occur during shipment. With this document, a procedure to measure and analyse climatic and other transportation loads is provided, thus allowing standardised and adequately documented load values to be produced. The document specifies the documentation of measurements such as sunlight, sand, dust and electromagnetic radiation during transport, handling and storage of goods. Annexes A through E contain explanations for the measurement of road, rail, sea, in-plant and combined transportation, including the blank form of the measuring report.
This document replaces DIN 30789-2:2008-12 .
