Overview

The standard specifies relevant requirements of Annex I of the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC for machines placed on the market for the first time in the European Economic Area (EEA) in order to facilitate the demonstration of conformity with these requirements. This standard specifies the essential safety requirements for the design and construction of reaction moulding machines and plants. The significant and specific hazards are listed in the informative Annex A and are dealt with in this standard. This document does not cover the requirements for the design of extraction systems. This document does not deal with the hazards arising from the assembly of separate equipment not supplied at the same time by the same manufacturer. Reaction moulding machines do not normally generate explosive atmospheres. If materials are processed that may generate an explosive atmosphere, Directive 94/7/EC should be applied to equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. Explosion hazards are not covered in this document. This document contains the German version of FprEN 1612:2017 prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 145 "Plastics and rubber machines" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The standard differs from DIN EN 1612-1:2009-07 as follows: a) extension of the scope to reaction moulding machines and plants; b) amendment and addition of definitions; c) the list of significant hazards has been moved to an informative annex; d) consideration of further technical developments in protective measures for mixing and dosing units; e) addition of safety-related requirements for reaction moulding plants; f) specification of requirements for the safety-related parts of control systems in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1; g) addition of a normative annex on noise measurement and noise declaration; h) deletion of the previous informative Annex ZA on the relationship between the standard and the essential requirements of the Machinery Directive 98/37/EC; i) adoption of the previous informative Annex ZB on the relationship between the standard and the essential requirements of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC as the new informative Annex ZA. The national interests in the preparation were represented by Committee NA 060-14-09 AA "Reaction injection moulding machines" at Technical Section "Plastics and rubber machines" of DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of the manufacturers and users of reaction moulding machines and plants as well as the employers' liability insurance associations were involved in the preparation.
