Overview

The European Standards DIN EN 15924 to DIN EN 15926, DIN EN 15956 and DIN EN 15957 have been prepared within the framework of mandate M/335 given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association to validate the test methods specified in Annex IV of EC Regulation No 2003/2003 relating to fertilizers, adapt them to the state of the art and to publish them as European Standards. The methods were validated in inter-laboratory tests with 22 participating laboratories from the participating CEN member countries. The test methods were initially published as a Technical Specification and have subsequently been adopted as European Standards under the Unique Acceptance Procedure (UAP). Within the framework of mandate M/335 it is intended to transfer the test methods for EC fertilizers, which have so far been specified in Annex IV of EC regulation No 2003/2003 into European Standards, after appropriate revision. Subsequently, the regulation shall be revised so that Annex IV can be waived and reference to the European Standards is made in the text of the regulation. DIN EN 15924 specifies a method for the determination of the fineness of grinding of soft natural phosphates by wet sieving. DIN EN 15925 specifies a method for the extraction of the total sulfur contained in fertilizers in elemental form or in other chemical combinations. The method is applicable to EC-fertilizers for which the declaration of the total sulfur, which may be present in various forms (elemental sulfur, thiosulfate, sulfite or sulfate) in fertilizers, is intended. DIN EN 15926 specifies a method for the extraction of water-soluble sulfur contained in fertilizers, which may be present in various forms. The method is applicable to EC-fertilizers for which the declaration of the water-soluble sulfur trioxide, which may be present in various forms as elemental, thiosulfate, sulfite or sulfate, is necessary. DIN EN 15956 specifies a method for the determination of phosphorus soluble in mineral acids. The method is applicable exclusively to EC phosphate fertilizers listed in Regulation (EC) 2003/2003, Annex I. DIN EN 15957 specifies a method for the extraction of phosphorus soluble in neutral ammonium citrate. The method is applicable to all fertilizers with respect to which solubility in neutral ammonium citrate is specified in Regulation (EC) 2003/2003, Annex I. The standards have been prepared by CEN/TC 260 "Fertilizers and liming materials" (secretariat: DIN). The national mirror committee is Working Committee NA 057-03-02 AA "Düngemittel" ("Fertilizers") of NAL.
