This standard defines relevant requirements of Annex I of the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, for machines which were placed on the market in the EEA for the first time, in order to facilitate the verification of the conformity with these requirements. Once it is cited in the Official Journal of the European Communities, it is deemed a harmonized standard, and thus a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive covered by this standard (so called presumption of conformity). This European Standard describes the safety requirements, and safety measures for verifying them, for the design and construction of guards, only able to be opened with a tool, which are used to guard the moving parts of the power transmission of self-propelled ride-on machines and mounted, semi-mounted or trailed machines used in agriculture. In addition, it specifies the type of information on safe-working practices (including residual risks) to be provided by the manufacturer. It deals with the significant hazards (see Annex A), hazardous situations and events relevant to guards of moving parts of power transmission used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer (see clauses 4 and 5). It is not applicable to guards for moving parts of the power transmission of: - tractors, - aircraft, - air cushion vehicles, or - lawn and garden equipment. It includes the German version of the modified standard ISO/TS 28923:2007 and EN 15811:2009, respectively, which has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 23 "Tractors and machinery for agriculture and forestry", Subcommittee 3 "Safety and comfort", in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 144 "Tractors and machinery for agriculture and forestry" of the European Committee of Standardization (CEN). During the preparation of the standard, the national interests were represented by Working Committee NA 060-16-30 AA "Landtechnik - Einzelthemen" ("Agricultural engineering - Individual issues") of the Normengruppe Landtechnik ("Agricultural Engineering Standards Group") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of the interested parties have been involved in the preparation of this standard.
