This standard specifies the methodology for evaluating the energy performance of lighting systems for providing general illumination in residential and non-residential buildings and for calculating or measuring the amount of energy required or used for lighting in buildings. The method may be applied to new, existing or refurbished buildings. It also provides a methodology (LENI) as the measure of the energy efficiency of the lighting installations in buildings. This document (EN 15193-1:2017) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 169 "Light and lighting", the secretariat of which is held by DIN (Germany). The responsible German mirror committee is NA 058-00-20 AA "Energetische Bewertung der Lichttechnik in Gebäuden" ("Energetic assessment of lighting technology in buildings") at DIN Standards Committee Lightning Technology (FNL). This standard has been prepared under the EPBD mandate M/480. EN 15193-1 is a European standard and CEN/TR 15193-2 is the Technical Report accompanying this standard with further informative content for evaluating the energy efficiency of buildings. In Germany, Directive 2010/31/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council on the energy performance of buildings is implemented primarily through national energy-saving legislation. The national energy-saving legislation refers to dated national and European standards and national preliminary standards that have been defined for implementation in Germany. Its application in conjunction with energy-saving legislation for buildings in Germany is defined by the provisions in force there. The provisions of German energy-saving legislation cannot be fully and identically reflected in the package of standards of EPBD mandate M/480 and the international and European standards referred to therein. When applying the standards of the mandate, it is not possible to achieve complete alignment with German energy-saving legislation in terms of procedure, result or evaluation of the result. At present, the package of standards of EPBD mandate M/480 is not applicable in Germany for the purposes of energy-saving legislation, even when taking the references to national regulations in the respective national annexes into account.
