This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the new EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). Scope This document describes the general safety requirements for electric arc furnaces to melt steel not containing radioactive material and covers the following equipment: electric arc furnaces with AC technology (alternating current); electric arc furnaces with DC technology (direct current); scrap pre-heating technology; associated equipment/devices. This standard contains the German version of EN 14681:2006+A1:2010 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 322 "Equipments for making and shaping of metals - Safety requirements" of the European Committee of Standardization (CEN). The following changes have been made with respect to DIN EN 14681:2006 a) The applicable new requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC have been taken into account. b) EN 294, EN 418, EN 563 and EN 954-1 have been replaced by the corresponding EN ISO standards. c) New standards have been taken into account: EN 614-1/-2, EN 894-1/-2/-3, EN 60447, EN ISO 7731, EN ISO 11064-1 and ISO 3864-1. d) The informative Annex ZA on the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC has been amended. The national interests during the preparation of this standard were represented by Committee NA 060-02-01 AA "Stahlerzeugung" ("Steel production") of Technical Section "Equipments for making and shaping of metals" of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Manufacturers' representatives and users of extrusion presses, as well as representatives of professional and trade associations were involved in the preparation of the standard.
This document replaces DIN EN 14681:2007-07 .
