Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the new EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This document describes the general safety requirements for hydraulically powered open die forging presses for hot working; handling and cooling equipment connected with the control system of the forging line, for example, manipulators, rotating type handling devices, die shifting devices, table devices and tool changing devices; handling equipment designed specifically to be used within the forging line, for example, material manipulation devices, turnover or handling devices attached to fork lift trucks or cranes, and so on. This standard contains the German version of EN 14673:2006+A1:2010 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 322 "Equipments for making and shaping of metals - Safety requirements" of the European Committee of Standardization (CEN). The following changes have been made with respect to DIN EN 14673:2006: a) The applicable new requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC have been taken into account. b) EN 294, EN 418, EN 563 and EN 954-1 have been replaced by the corresponding EN ISO standards. c) The control category according to EN 964-1 has been replaced by the performance level in combination with the control category according to EN ISO 13849-1. d) The informative Annex ZA on the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC has been amended. The national interests during the preparation of this standard were represented by Committee NA 060-02-05 AA "Strangpressen und Schmiedeanlagen" ("Moulding and core making machinery") of Technical Section "Equipments for making and shaping of metals" of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Manufacturers' representatives and users of moulding and core making machinery, as well as representatives of professional and trade associations were involved in the preparation of the standard.
