DIN EN 14658:2010-06

The European Standard has been prepared under the responsibility of Technical Committee CEN/TC 196. The German Mirror Committee is NA 008-10-02 AA "Bandanlagen in Braunkohlentagebauen" ("Conveyor systems for opencast lignite mining") of Mining Standards Committee (FABERG). The conveyor systems for opencast lignite mining are characterized by the fact that they cover wide areas; they are also characterized by high conveying loads and speeds, as well as a high degree of automation and a predominantly unmanned operation. These working conditions deviate substantially from the usual conditions in general industry; for this reason the specifications for employee safety indicated there cannot be applied in a useful way due to operational reasons, or they can even lead to an increased risk. The standard DIN EN 14658:2005-08, which has been prepared in the process of implementing the EC Machinery Directive 98/37/EC on conveyor systems for opencast lignite mining, had to be updated to meet the provisions of the new edition of the EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC to ensure that the presumption of conformity is maintained.
