This European Standard (EN 1434-1:2015) specifies the general requirements for heat meters. Heat meters are instruments intended for measuring the energy which in a heat-exchange circuit is absorbed (cooling) or given up (heating) by a liquid called the heat-conveying liquid. The heat meter indicates the quantity of heat in legal units. Electrical safety requirements, pressure related safety requirements and surface mounted temperature sensors are not covered in this European Standard. This standard deals exclusively with meters for closed systems in which the differential pressure at the heat exchanger is limited. The responsible committee is NA 041-03-05 AA "Wärmezähler (SpA CEN/TC 176)" ("Heat meters (Mirror committee of CEN/TC 176)") at DIN.
