This European Standard specifies a method for the determination of the water content in bituminous emulsions by means of distillation. The use of this standard may involve hazardous materials, operations and equipment. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. The water contained in a bituminous emulsion is distilled over by means of a carrier vapour from a water immiscible solvent-carrier liquid. Condensed solvent-carrier liquid and water are separated continuously in a graduated receiver; the water settles in the graduated section of the receiver and the condensed solvent-carrier liquid returns to the flask. This document (EN 1428:2012) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 336 "Bituminous binders", the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR (France). The responsible German committee is Joint Working Group NA 062-03-32 GA "Bitumen; Prüfverfahren und Anforderungen für die Bindemittel" ("Bitumen; test methods and specifications of binders") at the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP) and the German Civil Engineering Standards Committee (NABau) at DIN. The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN 1428:1999-12: a) the standard has been editorially revised.
This document replaces DIN EN 1428:1999-12 .
