This European Standard specifies additional requirements and test methods for trunk protectors used in unarmed martial arts such as taekwondo, karate, kick-boxing and similar disciplines. It also applies to breast protectors for men. For general requirements and test methods for protective equipment for martial arts, see EN 13277-1. This standard differs from DIN EN 13277-3:2001-01 as follows: a) a "sizing" requirement has been deleted; b) in "estraint", a new requirement has been added; c) in 4.5 "Impact performance", the impact energy for karate has been added; d) 4.6 "Mass and thickness for trunk protectors for karate" has been added; e) in clause 6 "Marking", a new requirement concerning the karate trunk protector has been added; f) Annex ZA has been updated. This document (EN 13277-3:2013) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 162 "Protective clothing including hand and arm protection and lifejackets" at Working Group WG 11 "Body protection for sports", the secretariat of which is held by AENOR (Spain). The responsible German committee is Working Committee NA 112-04-03 AA "Körperschutz" ("Body protection") at the Sports Equipment Standards Committee (NASport) at DIN.
