This European Standard specifies the technical requirements and the measurements to be made for the acceptance of work to reprofile longitudinally and/or transversely the heads of railway rails, including the areas of the switches and crossings which can be reprofiled. It applies to reprofiled vignole railway rails 46 kg/m and above. For acceptance purposes, two classes of longitudinal profile and three classes of transverse profile tolerance are defined. This standard also provides information on the procedures to verify reference instruments to be used for these measurements as well as methods to approve non-reference instruments to be used for measurements. A form of acceptance documentation that may be used is given in Annex E. The advantages for the users of the standard are primarily the specification of uniform guideline values for handling and acceptance of all applications regarding the machining of railway rails; they apply for grinding, milling and planning of railway rails. Synergies develop for all parties involved due to the definition of construction, testing and acceptance of reference measurement systems, comparison measurement systems and approved measurement systems applicable for all standards. For the first time, uniform processes for the construction and application of measurement systems are created. Engineering standard for tracks of railway applications, for acceptance of reprofiled railway rails in the track. The standard deals with aspects of measurement of reprofiled railway rails and thus contributes to safety and quality. The standard supersedes DIN EN 13231-3:2006. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 087-00-01 AA "Oberbau" ("Trackwork") at DIN.
