This standard specifies a dimensional classification for round timber (softwood and hardwood) for which the intended use is not known. Dimensional classification is made, irrespective of length, into classes according to the mid-diameter under bark or over bark. The under bark class is denoted by a D letter, the over bark class by an R letter. The standard cancels and replaces DIN EN 1315-1:1997-06 and DIN EN 1315-2:1997-10. With respect to these standards, the differentiation between softwood and hardwood has been cancelled. Classes D 6 and R 6 have been modified. Furthermore classes D 7/R 7 and D 8/R 8 have been added. The European Standard has been prepared by CEN/TC 175 "Round and sawn timber", the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR (France). At NHM the responsible German Committee is Working Committee NA 042-01-14 AA "Spiegelausschuss zu CEN/TC 175 und ISO/TC 218 Rund- und Schnittholz" ("Mirror committee of CEN/TC 175 and ISO/TC 218 Round and sawn timber").
This document replaces DIN EN 1315-1:1997-06 , DIN EN 1315-2:1997-10 .
