The revision of this standard became necessary due to the introduction of the new standards for floor gullies with traps with a water seal depth of at least 50 mm (EN 1253-1), for roof drains and floor gullies without traps (EN 1253-2) and assessment of conformity of floor gullies, roof drains and covers (EN 1253-3) on the one hand, and changes in identification details and procedures on the other hand. This European Standard classifies access covers according to their loading strength and specifies requirements relating to their design, construction, marking, testing and evaluation of conformity for factory made access covers used for drainage systems inside buildings. This standard does not apply to access covers intended for external use which are covered by EN 124 series. It is clearly emphasized that the choice of the appropriate load class is the responsibility of the planner. After information on materials, external properties, clear width of covers for manholes, edge protection for covers made of reinforced concrete, tightness (water, odor and backpressure tightness), there follow test procedures to verify these requirements as well as modalities for marking and evaluation of conformity. The responsible committee is Working Committee NA 119-05-11 AA "Ablaufgarnituren, Abläufe, Rückstauverschlüsse und Belüftungsventile für die Verwendung innerhalb von Gebäuden (CEN/TC 165/WG 11)" ("Waste fittings, drains, anti-flooding devices and air vents for use inside buildings (CEN/TC 165/WG 11)") at DIN Standards Committee Water Practice (NAW).
This document replaces DIN EN 1253-4:2000-02 .
