This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the new EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This document describes the general safety requirements for the following machines and equipment which are used directly and indirectly for the manufacture of castings: ladles; pouring equipment; centrifugal casting machines for production of tubes (only machines with horizontal or oblique axis of rotation); continuous and semi continuous casting machines for non-ferrous metals. This standard specifies the safety requirements in addressing the following items: controls; protection against: mechanical hazards, movement of machines and material, ejection of parts, material, liquids and gases, implosion, structural instability; electric hazards; explosion, fire, scalds, contact with hot parts (burns), gases and flames; noise and vibration; thermal radiation; harmful by-products, poisoning, pollution of operators air; impact; deterioration of worker's health; shearing; crushing; maintenance, provision for warning systems. This standard contains the German version of EN 1247+A1:2010 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 202 "Foundry machinery" of the European Committee of Standardization (CEN). The following changes have been made with respect to DIN EN 1247:2004: a) the appropriate requirements of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC have been taken into account; b) the EN standards have been replaced by the corresponding EN ISO standards; c) the control category according to EN 954-1 has been replaced by the performance level in combination with the control category according to EN ISO 13849-1; d) the informative Annex ZA on the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC has been added. The national interests during the preparation of this standard were represented by Committee NA 060-04-01 AA "Gießereimaschinen" ("Foundry machinery"), Technical Section Foundry machinery of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Manufacturers' representatives and users of tube forming and rolling mills, as well as representatives of professional and trade associations were involved in the preparation of the standard.
This document replaces DIN EN 1247:2004-10 .
