This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This European Standard applies to the design and manufacture of automatic dough dividers whose function is based on the volumetric principle using one or more suction and/or pressing pistons. Dough dividers working in other ways are excluded from the scope of this European Standard. These automatic dividers are used in the food industry and shops (pastry-making, bakeries, confectionery, etcetera) for dividing dough or pastry into portions to produce the required weight of dough piece. These machines can be fed by hand or automatically. This European Standard specifies all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to the installation, adjustment, operation, cleaning, maintenance, dismantling, disabling and scrapping of automatic dough dividers, when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer (see clause 4). When drafting this European Standard, it has been assumed that the machines are not intended to be cleaned with water. The following machines are excluded: experimental and testing machines, under development by the manufacturer; weighting devices; "knife and belt" dividers and other types of machines where the dividing mechanism is based on the functioning of a moving knife; lifting and tilting machines or other separate feeding machines. A noise test code is included in Annex A to assist manufacturers to measure noise levels for the purpose of the noise emission declaration. This European Standard is not applicable to machines which are manufactured before the date of publication of this European Standard by CEN. This standard contains the German version of EN 12042:2005+A1:2010 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 153 "Machinery intended for use with foodstuffs and feed" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The following changes have been made with respect to DIN EN 12042:2005: a) The standard has been changed and adapted with respect to the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC; b) An informative Annex ZB on the relationship between this European Standard and the essential requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC has been added. The national interests during the preparation of the standard are represented by Committee NA 060-18-01 AA "Bäckereimaschinen" ("Bakery equipment") of Technical Section "Food Processing Machinery" of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of the interested parties were involved in the preparation of this standard.
