Overview

This standard contains specifications giving detail to the essential requirements set out in Annex I of the "Machinery Directive", Directive 2006/42/EC, and which apply to machines that are either first placed on the market or commissioned within the EEA. This standard serves to facilitate proof of compliance with the essential requirements of that directive. Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union, it is deemed a “harmonized” standard and thus, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive ("presumption of conformity").This European Standard deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to escalators and moving walks when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer. This standard contains the German version of EN 115-1:2017, which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 10 "Lifts, escalators and moving walks". This standard differs from DIN EN 115-1:2010-06 as follows: a) the safety has been improved due to changes in proven technology; b) requirements taking into account changes in the state of the art have been included: - a new structure of electric requirements with clauses for protective, safety and control devices and functions has been included; - requirements for step inserts and fixings have been amended; - the operational brake has been extended to cover electrical braking; - the test material for skirting has been updated; - fire protection requirements have been included; - a 2-direction mode has been included; - a stop switch indicator has been included; - an inspection control actuated using both hands has been included; - the description of barriers to prevent access of trolleys has been amended; - requirements for fixed devices in the unrestricted area have been amended; - seismic design requirements have been included; c) essential health and safety requirements from the relevant EU Directives have been included; d) reported errors have been corrected; e) the text has been clarified and proposals resulting from interpretation requests have been incorporated 1); f) references to other standards have been improved according to the progress in that field; g) the standard has been adapted to CEN Guide 414:2014. The national interests during the preparation were represented by Working Committee NA 060-33-02 AA "Fahrtreppen und Fahrsteige" ("Escalators and moving walks") of Technical Section Lifts and Escalators at DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of the manufacturers and users of lifts, escalators and moving walks, and of the employers' liability insurance associations were involved in the preparation.
