Manually operated taps according to DIN EN 1106 for gas powered heating, cooking and grilling appliances provide the simplest possibility to enable the user in a mechanical way to operate such an appliance without additional auxiliary power. Through operation of the tap handle, the operator is able to open the gas flow from the home connection point or, for liquid gas, from the gas cylinder, and by continuing to turn, to reduce the desired gas quantity to a small or bypass quantity. The atmospheric gas burning appliance which is connected with the outlet of the tap burns the supplied air-gas mixture according to the application, such as, for instance, in gas cooking appliances with hot plate cookers or wok cookers for domestic use or camping, gas fired ovens, grilling appliances or gas powered smoking devices. The European Standard DIN EN 1106 specifies the safety, construction and performance requirements for manually operated taps and pre-setting taps intended for use with gas appliances and similar use. This European Standard is applicable to taps with declared maximum inlet pressures up to and including 50 kPa (500 mbar) of nominal connection sizes up to and including DN 50 for use with one or more fuel gases in accordance with EN 437. The Committee responsible for this standard is NA 041-03-16 AA "Mechanische Sicherheits- und Regeleinrichtungen für wärmeerzeugende Geräte und Anlagen (SpA CEN/TC 58/WG 13)" ("Mechanical safety and control devices for heating appliances and heat generating systems (Mirror Committee to CEN/TC 58/WG 13)") at DIN.
