This harmonized European Standard is part of a set of European standards dealing with design and manufacturing of structural components and structures made from steel and aluminium. This European Standard specifies requirements for conformity assessment of steel and aluminium components as well as for kits placed on the market as construction products. The conformity assessment spans the manufacturing characteristics and the structural designs characteristics, where appropriate. This European Standard also deals with the conformity assessment of steel components used in composite steel and concrete structures. The components have structural characteristics which make them fit for their particular use and function. This standard specifies general technical delivery conditions for structural steel and aluminium structures. It contains requirements for conformity assessment of the building components concerning the provided performance characteristics and the test methods to be used. Classification of the components is performed in accordance with design standards for steel or aluminium components (Part 2 and 3 of this standard series). This document (EN 1090-1:2009) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 135 "Execution of steel structures and aluminium structures", the secretariat of which is held by SN (Norway). Germany was involved in the preparation through experts of Working Committee NA 005-08-14 AA "Stahlbauten; Herstellung (Sp CEN/TC 135)" ("Steel structures; Fabrication (Mirror Committee to CEN/TC 135)") of NABau. In particular, the standard deals with aspects of quality and product safety.
